Say something about the difference between the software versions before you download and begin the trial use of SuperMap GIS software products~😁

What is the difference between the different packages?

In a normal situation, we would share several different categories of packages with you. For the desktop terminal software, they are the setup version and bin version. For the web terminal software, they are the full version and deploy version.

Desktop Terminal Software: (iDesktopX)

The setup version means you need to run the "setup.exe" application, which is the application of the install wizard to install the software into your computer.

The bin version, in other words, the portable version, means you only need to decompress the zip file, saving them into the pointed directory is enough.

There are differences between those two kinds of desktop software packages. From the direct view, the setup version software packages are bigger than the bin version software packages.

Here are the reasons:

Firstly, the setup version software packages have more example data than install-free software packages. As a new user of SuperMap GIS software, you can use those example data to familiarize the tools in iDesktopX.

Secondly, the setup version software packages have offline help documents but the bin version software packages do not. But, we also provide the help document download link. If you choose to use the bin version software packages, do not forget to download the help documents.

Other than that, the functions or tools in the setup version and bin version software are the same.

From my perspective, if you are a totally new user of GIS software, the setup version software package is better for you to get started with iDesktopX or understand what you can get from the GIS software. The advantage of the bin version software package is convenience. You can use GIS desktop terminal software without installation. Thanks to the lightweight characteristics of the bin version, the R&D department would provide a bin version software package to update and fix the issues in iDesktopX.

Web Terminal Software: (iServer, iPortal)

For the web terminal software of iServer and iPortal, we provide a full-version-install-free software package and a deploy-version-install-free package.

The full version of iServer contains the function samples and sample codes of iClient and iClient3D. The full version of iServer and iPortal also contains the sample data, services, and help document, which will help you to know the function of iServer and iPortal better.

The deploy version does not contain the function samples and sample codes of iClient and iClient3D, the sample data, services, and the help document. The deploy version is suitable for the project deployment usage.
